  • The most likely route of transmission of the virus is PERSONAL HAND-TO-FACE CONTACT. This means, in essence, that you touch something (anything) or someone and then touch your face (this includes your ears).
  • Estimates vary, but we should assume that the virus can survive for 5 days within a cell on a surface.
  • IN THE PRACTICE WE ROUTINELY, AND HAVE ALWAYS, USED SURFACE DISINFECTANTS THAT KILL VIRUSES. This routine goes back to the days of Parvovirus/catflu. All our surfaces, including doors, are treated several times a day.
  • DOGS AND CATS CANNOT CONTRACT THIS VIRUS.
  • PLEASE DO NOT TOUCH/STROKE ANOTHER OWNER’S PET. THE HAIR/FUR IS CONSIDERED A SURFACE, AND CAN HARBOUR VIRUS LIKE ANY OTHER SURFACE.
  • Please follow the PUBLIC HEALTH UK advice: wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water several times a day; or use an alcohol based hand sanitiser where available; avoid touching your face; avoid touching the skin of others (shaking hands, kissing, etc); sneeze or cough into a tissue and dispose of it immediately. Self-isolate and phone the NHS if your suspect you have symptoms.
  • If you have any questions, please speak to a member of staff.

When visiting the practice:

  • Please phone ahead to make an appointment if you wish to see the vet. We are not running our normal drop-in sessions during this time.
  • We have hand washing facilities (soap, running water and paper towel) available in the washroom. Please feel free to make use of them
  • Please wait outside in the courtyard - when registering and paying, please wait until the desk is clear before approaching. If there is anybody at the desk, please wait outside until the area is clear.
  • Keep your distance from others, including staff - the minimum recommended distance is 2 metres.
  • As above, we recommend not petting other clients' animals during this period.
  • We would ask that only one client accompanies their pet during consultations unless advised otherwise by the consulting vet. Please respect this.
